Steven Smith acknowledged after the fifth and final One-Day International (ODI) between England and Australia that the moment Eoin Morgan was hit on his head by the bouncer from Mitchell Starc, there were a few worried Austalians on the field. Australia won the game by a margin of eight wickets, chasing down a paltry score of 138 to win the series 3-2. Talking about the incident, Smith said, “âI think there were a couple of guys who were shaken up. Starcy in particular.” It was notable since the Australian coach Darren Lehmann was spotted talking with the Australian fast bowler near the boundary ropes at the end of that very over. âObviously it was a tough summer back home losing a close mate. Itâs always nasty when you get a glance like that. So there were a few guys shaken up and I guess hopefully Eoinâs ok. âI donât think anyone ever means to do anything like that. Itâs part of the game bowling bouncers and stuff like that I think you just have to get back on the ship as quickly as possible. You still have a job to do in the middle and take it out of your mind as quickly as possible, but you never like to see anyone hit like that for sure,â he added. The England coach later confirmed that Morgan was fine after feeling a bit dizzy at the moment of the blow but was talking normally and would be taken care of properly by the medical staff. Smith said that it was a satisfying win for England in the ODI series. “We only had four players left from the World Cup-winning side. Itâs pleasing to win a series away from home. Itâs been a terrific tour, and Iâve enjoyed every minute. Iâm looking forward to everything ahead of me now. Iâm a bit tired to be perfectly honest so Iâm looking forward to 10 days at home before we go to Bangladesh. Itâs going to be a big challenge. Itâs going to be a tough tour in Bangladesh. Hopefully the guys can prepare well. Iâm not sure of the makeup of the team, there may well be a few young guys in the squad. Some guys are coming in looking to make a path for themselves,” he concluded.
