Indian captain MS Dhoni is without doubt one of the smartest and shrewdest cricketers of all time. Match after match, time and again the maverick skipper has given ample evidences of the same. Be it his lightning-quick stumping of Sabbir Rahman in the ICC World T20 2016 game against Bangladesh, or his smart use of his legs to save vital runs behind the wicket during the Indian Premier League (IPL) games, Dhoni invariably comes up with something which outfoxes the opposition completely and leaves them gasping. Another such incident came to the fore on Wednesday during the fourth One-Day International (ODI) between India and New Zealand at his hometown Ranchi.

The incident happened during the 46th over of the New Zealand innings being bowled by Umesh Yadav. Ross Taylor, who has struggled throughout the India tour, was in the middle with Anton Devcich. A swinging delivery by the Indian pacer was played by Taylor towards the fine leg boundary where Dhawal Kulkarni was stationed. Taylor opted for the second run, sensing Dhawal s throw will take enough time to reach Dhoni allowing him a couple of runs. The throw was not special, but Dhoni, who was standing in front of the stumps, collected it and without looking back deflected the ball on to the stumps.

The matter was sent to the TV umpire for a review, who found Taylor short of the crease. Taylor was surprised; the Kiwi camp was surprised too. Indian players, however, were not. They knew Dhoni pulls off such stunners time and again. Watch the video below:

New Zealand eventually posted 260 for 7 from the stipulated 50 overs. Will be interesting to see whether india can chase the total down on their skipper s home ground and keep team s unbeaten streak in Ranchi going.
