Nathan Lyon, Australia‘s right-arm offbreak bowler will take India‘s spin bowler Ravichandran Ashwin‘s advice so that he can improve his bowling and thereby improve his chance to be selected for Australia’s squad for ODIs and T20Is after India vs Australia ODI and T20I series. Ashwin is probably the finest finger spinner in world cricket today and one of the best India has ever produced. 28-year-old Lyon is a regular in Australia’s Test setup but is yet to make a mark in limited-overs cricket. He has only played eight ODIs so far and is yet to make his T20I debut. On the other hand, he has featured in 52 Test matches and has 185 scalps from them. In ODIs, he only has 11 wickets to his name. FULL CRICKET SCORECARD: India vs Australia 2015-16, 3rd ODI at MCG.
In a conversation with ESPNcricinfo he said, “If the opportunity comes up at the end of the T20 series that I can sit down and have a chat with Ashwin, I’m definitely up for it. I watch his bowling quite closely, especially when he’s bowling back home, so trying to forever learn off every spinner going around, and if I can keep improving, keep getting better, that’s my goal. Ashwin and [Ravindra] Jadeja are world-class spinners. Coming out to Australia it’s a hard place to bowl spin, but I definitely think the Indian spin bowling stocks are up there.”
Lyon said he will try to make the best out of the limited opportunities he is getting like being selected for the three-match T20I series against India, “I’ve got an opportunity now and I’ve got to perform. I’m very grateful to the selectors who’ve given me that opportunity.”
