Even as Kagiso Rabada ran in to bowl that final over, you just wondered if South Africans were praying Kagiso could turn out to be Hardik Pandya and if Quinton de Cock could do a MS Dhoni. But as it turned out, South Africa lost to West Indies in a low scoring thriller and now find themselves completely at sea and mercy of the islanders from the subcontinent.
As the Points Table stands, South Africa will now need to beat Sri Lanka and hope that Sri Lanka ends up beating England if they have any chance to qualify for the semi finals. AB De Villiers, the star South African batsman is hoping that Sri Lanka will do it for them.
Immediately after the loss to West Indies, AB De Villiers spoke to the writer and made a startling revelation. He said, “If Sri Lanka manages to get us into the semi-finals by losing to us and beating England, I will give up my scoop shots. Only Tillakaratne Dilshan will be remembered for those shots in the history of cricket. I just hope this gets him pumped to produce a special knock that helps his side defeat England.”
As soon as Dilshan heard this news, he started practicing the Dilscoop in his hotel room with the hope of playing a good knock.
But there is still something that is troubling ABD.
If Dilshan indeed gets extra pumped, he might just demolish the England attack and it will improve Sri Lanka’s net run-rate and that too would not be a good news for South Africa.
