Ashish Nehra seems to be going the spiritual way. First his apprehensions for smart phones and now his love for motivational talks, Nehra is heading towards monkhood. India vs Bangladesh matches are not supposed to be such nail biters. Then it turned out to be one of the closest matches ever played. However, the last over provided the television audience with exceptional visuals. Almost the entire Indian team was in a meeting and the leader of that meeting was not MS Dhoni but a 36-year-old left arm fast bowler, Ashish Nehra.

Another 37-year-old, left-armer Zaheer Khan sitting in the commentary box must have thought he retired too early. Then as it happened, Nehra turned up with some invaluable suggestions and his contribution was clear especially when Dhoni, who is not known for much celebration, ran straight up to Nehra and lifted him up in his arms.

A source close to Indian team informed the writer, ”Nehra ji is perhaps the most experienced player in the world right now after Shahid Afridi. He has been there since the days of Ricky Ponting smacking Indian bowlers out of the park in 2003 World Cup. So that experience really helped. He was the one who suggested to Dhoni that he should keep for the last ball with one glove off which facilitated Dhoni with run out.

He has also been doing that for CSK over the last couple of years. Dhoni has started to believe that Nehraji is the go to man when he wants to hear words of wisdom.

It was a game when even MS lost his cool, yey Nehra ji kept himself composed and even guided Jasprit Bumrah in that penultimate over!”

Asked to further elaborate, the source informed, ”Most people will tell you what to do and what to bowl in such situations. But Nehra ji who has tried all such things in his career spanning 16 years, knows exactly what shot batsmen will hit on that delivery. So Nehra ji said what not to do in death overs. I know that sounds clichéd but Nehra ji is planning to write a book titled- ‘Six balls someone- what not to do in death overs!’ Chetan Bhagat is not happy with the title as it very much sounds similar to his book, ‘Five point someone- What not to do in IIT’. ”

The writer tried  contacting Nehra on Facebook and Twitter but since Nehra ji uses an old Nokia phone, following conversation took place over SMS where he informed us, ”I am already 36 and shall be retiring soon.  I do not want to compete with Viru and Zak in the commentary box so I am planning to take up the job of motivational speaker. In fact, many IPL teams have already started contacting me to deliver a talk during strategic time out in IPL. Let us see how it goes!”

We will wait and see how it goes. Some news from the neighbours. Cardiologists were needed immediately in Dhaka after the game ended. An epidemic of heart attack has broken out in Bangladesh. While the ones who survived from this are suffering from the deadly communicable ACMS (Acute Complaining and Whining Syndrome).
