Cape Cobras have lost both their matches in the main draw of the Champions League T20 (CLT20) 2014. With the main guns JP Duminy and Dale Steyn missing from the setup, their strength is immensely depreciated. If they want to stay in the hunt for the next round, they will have to win this game against Barbados Tridents at Mohali. Varun Arora lists down the likely eleven players who will take the field for the Cape Cobras.
Richard Levi: The bright shining light for the Cobras in the last match, Levi will be expected to take charge of the things at the start of the innings. He is known for his ability to hit big, and the Cobras will expect him to fire some big blows early.
Hashim Amla: Cobras depend highly on Amla to give them momentum early on in the innings but in both the matches he has looked rusty. He got out to Ben Hilfenhaus in the last match playing down the wrong line. Amla will look to play his natural game and consolidate the innings.
Omphile Ramela: He got a great start in the last match but failed to translate it into a big innings. Ramela demonstrated that ability to score quickly. He can provide a solid layout to Cobras’ innings if he stays on the crease for few overs.
Dane Vilas: The wicketkeeper-batsman from Johannesburg, Dane Vilas is a crucial knot at No 4. He scored 25 against Hurricanes and looked solid at the wicket. Vilas would look to replicate his innings from the last match and add a few more runs.
Justin Ontong: He comes to the Cobras side with immense experience. Ontong failed against the Hurricanes as he got out to Joe Mennie. He will like to stick to his responsibility of getting his team home and also push the flow of runs if needed.
Robin Peterson: The left-handed all-rounder, Peterson is an adaptable batsman, and can shift gears according to the situation. He comes as an attacking lower-order batsman but can also play at the No 3 slot if needed.
Sybrand Englebrecht: Came as a replacement for Duminy, this is a big opportunity for him to show his talent both with the bat and ball. He was the best bowler for Cobras against Hurricanes as he picked up three wickets giving away just 20 runs.
Vernon Philander: Philander smashed 32 off just 14 deliveries against Hobart Hurricanes with a strike rate of more than 200. An asset to any captain, Philander is the key to get quick runs and lot of wickets.
Dane Piedt: A wicket-taking off-spinner, he wasn’t used much in the previous match as he injured his shoulder mid-way through his spell. If fit, Piedt will be an important key in the spin department paired with Peterson.
Aviwe Mgijima: A medium-fast bowler, Mgijima he got limited opportunities against Hurricanes. He was a tad expensive as he went for 13 off just one over but if he is played he will look to even things.
Charles Langeveldt: He is the most experienced customer with the ball for the Cobras. If he gets it right in the early overs, he can give you wickets and stop the flow of runs. He will the key to Cobras fast-bowling hopes against the Tridents.
