Barbados Tridents will take on Hobart Hurricanes in match 16 of the Champions League T20 (CLT20) 2014 at Mohali. The Tridents would be smarting from their Super Over loss and they will be desperate for a victory. Sandipan Banerjee takes a look at the likely XI of Barbados Tridents for this must win encounter.
After the heart breaking super over loss against the Cape Cobras, Barbados Tridents will be playing a virtual knock-out game against the Hobart Hurricanes at Mohali on Sunday. To survive in this year’s CLT20, Tridents’ need a victory with a good margin. Here is Tridents’ likely playing XI for this important match.
Dilshan Munaweera: In the absence of their regular opener Dwayne Smith, Dilshan Munaweera came up well in this CLT20. He gave the team quick starts in both the matches that he played in and would like to continue his good form in the upcoming clash as well.
Shane Dowrich (wk): Shane Dowrich, the wicket-keeper batsman came in the team in the last game. He will probably get another chance to open the innings. In the first six overs he needs to give his team good start. His keeping will also be monitored.
Raymon Reifer: Raymon Reifer played well in the first game but missed out in the second match against the Cobras. He is an important batsman of the team and in this crucial game Reifer need to put his hand up for the team.
Jonathan Carter: Jonathan Carter showed the world what he is capable of with a brilliant hundred in the last game. Again he would like to continue his good form. Probably Carter will bat at his usual number four position in this Tridents’ batting line-up.
James Franklin: James Franklin is not having a good CLT20 2014. As an overseas player of the team, he needs to play more responsibly for Tridents. He can prove his worth in the team by performing well in the upcoming crucial games.
Jeevan Mendis: All-rounder Jeevan Mendis has impressed with his bowling in the last couple of games. But with bat in hand, Mendis would like to contribute. Sunday’s game against Hurricanes will be a good opportunity for him to shine.
Jason Holder: Jason Holder is playing the role of bowling all-rounder in this team. Apart from his bowling, his late order hitting can be a crucial aspect of for the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) champions.
Ashley Nurse: Off-spinner Ashley Nurse bowled decently in this tournament. On a big ground like Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) stadium Mohali, a bowler like Nurse can control opposition’s batsmen with his slow bowling. With bat in hand also Nurse can be effective.
Akeal Hosein: Left arm spinner Akeal Hosein came in the team in the last game and bowled with the new ball. His spin is expected to play a vital part against the Hobart batsmen too.
Rayad Emrit (c): Skipper Rayad Emrit has to perform better and lead the team on a better way. He hasn’t done enough to prove his worth as captain of the team yet.
Ravi Rampaul: As the leading bowler of the team, Rampaul has to bowl better. In the last two games, He was inconsistent and leaked runs. As the most experienced bowler of the team, Rampaul has to come up with a better performance for the Barbados team.
