Some of his decision making in the recent past can be questioned, but when it comes to providing sheer entertainment and antics as an umpire, New Zealand’s Billy Bowden is unmatched.
Bowden, over the years has redefined umpiring by adding humour to one of sports’ most tedious and serious jobs. The evergreen Kiwi has had no competition when it came to his umpiring signalling.
Hold on, finally we have another umpire who can match-up Bowden. In this video, this particular umpire is shown officiating in a local tournament and signals a boundary in the most bizarre way. The umpire starts dancing by moving to and fro in his spot and then goes ahead with hip movements. He continues his merry dancing and later moves his hand back swiftly to signal four. Even that looks as if he is slashing someone’s throat with a sword.
Surely a competition for Bowden and we wonder how would it be if Bowden and him were to officiate in an international game.
