David Warner, the renowned opening batsman for Australia, will play his farewell Test match against Pakistan at the Sydney Cricket Ground, marking the end of his Test career. For the 112th and last time, Warner, one of the best opening hitters in the format, is wearing the baggy green. He strolled over to the MCG accompanied by his daughters.
Upon Pakistan’s decision to bat first, Warner emerged onto the field and was welcomed by his three daughters, Ivy Mae, Indi Rae, and Isla Rose, at the SCG as the teams stood up for the national anthems. He was accompanied during the anthems by his daughters. On social media, the video has also gone viral.
His wife was also there with Warner, and the three daughters were wearing shirts with their father’s jersey number, which is 31. Upon entering the field, he spoke into the microphone on Fox, saying, “It’s pretty special to walk out with my daughters.” Notably, the 37-year-old’s previous baggy green headwear vanished before the game, so he wore a new one during the team anthems. When Warner was traveling from Melbourne to Sydney for the third Test, his backpack—which included his loose green cap—went missing. Subsequently, he made a social media request to retrieve the backpack.
“Hi all, this is my last resort,” he posted a video and a message on Instagram,”but my backpack, which contained my Baggy Green, has been taken from my luggage, which was transported to Melbourne airport and flown on @qantas to Sydney a few days ago. @qantas have said they checked their cameras and have not seen anyone open our bags and take the backpack, however they do have blind spots. If you are the person, who was either working for the company driving it to and from the airport or working for @qantas and have, by chance, just wanted the backpack, I have one for. I would be grateful if this were returned asap. Thanks,” Warner said in his video.
“Please reach out to Cricket Australia or myself via my social media and I’m happy to give this to you if you return my baggy greens,” he added.
The restoration of the baggy greens to Warner has also been requested by Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.”David Warner has represented Australia on more than 100 occasions. The baggy green caps belong to him. He has earnt them and they should be returned,” As reported by 7News Australia, Albanese stated.
