Harbhajan Singh: The cop who punished a ‘criminal’ before he committed the crime!

The game of cricket is riddled with controversies. From nasty deliveries, sharp words, match-fixing to broken jaws, punches and slaps! The cricket fraternity has been left flabbergasted time and again with such scandals.

Flashback to one such incidents that took place in 2008 during an Indian Premier League (IPL) match between Mumbai Indians and Kings XI Punjab in Mohali, where Harbhajan Singh slapped pace bowler Shantakumaran Sreesanth in a fit of anger when the latter said something to him which the off-spinner found offensive. Termed as ‘slapgate,’ the infamous whack left Sreesanth crying bitterly in front of national television.

Fast forward to 2013, the fast bowler found himself embroiled in another controversy where he and two of his Rajasthan Royals teammates Ankeet Chavan and Ajit Chandila along with 11 bookies were arrested for spot-fixing in that year’s IPL. Later that year, the three were handed a life ban by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for their involvement in the fixing scam, virtually ending their careers.

The above meme takes a dig over the fact that the veteran spin bowler was the first police officer to find Sreesanth guilty of a crime before the others came to know about his wrongdoing.
