Gautam Gambhir’s comeback to the Indian Test team is not less than a fairy tale. Gambhir initially struggled to cement his place in the Indian side across the format but by the time the year-2007 commenced, he did that with his hard work. He not only stamped his place in the side but also played a vital role in India’s success across the formats between 2007 to 2011. After that, rough patch for Gambhir began in the mid 2014, he got dropped from the side because of his poor run across all the formats but he continued to toil hard in domestic cricket.
After more than two years, Gambhir has made his comeback to cricket’s longest and oldest format in which he is considered to be one of the best openers of all time for India. Initially, there were only rumours over Gambhir’s comeback before the series between India and New Zealand began. Later, it became a reality and seemed like he was destined for this. He made it to the side at the expense of KL Rahul and Shikhar Dhawan as the duo were ruled out due to injury. Gambhir received a splendid reception to international cricket from fans as he carries a huge fan following.
