The cards do not show a comfortable day for England. Like the Justice card, they will need to gather themselves very, very quickly for them to put up a strong fight. The Five of Wands and Ten of Swords depicts a day of hard work, but this battle is not so much with the opposition, but with themselves. Luckily, they are being given the right advice, but it’s the implementation that will falter, especially in areas like fielding, where despite a promising start they will appear perplexed. They will initially need to be a bit more cautious with their batting and like the Queen of Swords they will eventually follow their plans.
Captain Stuart Broad will take his time to assess the situation. Like the Hierophant, he will manage a better approach, allowing for good decisions to be taken. The Four of Swords does show the weight of expectations on his bowling, which he will be able to live up to.
Key players
Luke Wright, like the Lovers, will build a good partnership. But like his captain, he too will feel the pressure. It is at these moments he will need to be very cautious as his aggression will get the better of him.
Eoin Morgan will appear nervous and apprehensive. The Ten of Swords warns of the tremendous hard work needed to do well today. Despite moments of promise, it will be a tough day.
Alex Hales will be like the Page of Swords – uncertain and not as effective as he should be.
Steven Finn like the Sun will come up with new inputs and be effective with implementing them, but he will not be too economical.
Samit Patel’s bowling will be clever. He will think things thoroughly and then like theSeven of Wands he will take actions that will work in his favour.
Like England, New Zealand too will appear unsure and under-confident. Like thePage of Swords, they will have a difficult start, plus the Three of Pentacles shows their heavy reliance on individuals to see them through, which is looking likely to work in their favour today. This is not to say that it will all be easy, but they will be willing to work hard to produce positive results. The Two of Swords does touch on some batting concerns, which will not hamper their progress for too long.
Ross Taylor is going to struggle with his captaincy. It will be a taxing mental challenge, but he has great team support. The Lovers and the Ace of Swordsrepresents the active backing up from team members as well as generation of strong plans. His batting will appear confused and will lack consistency. The Seven of Cups advises him to not try out too many things.
Key players
Brendon McCullum will be attacking, but yet the Eight of Swords shows him restricting his natural flow. This will be his undoing, despite the good start.
Rob Nicol, like the Two of Cups, will be involved in a good partnership. He will play with gentle command and continue his good momentum.
Tim Southee will appear shaky, but with the Ten of Cups drawn, it is quite evident that he will work hard to keep himself together for the team and produce results.
Daniel Vettori will be like the Strength card today – in control and tough to get past.
Kyle Mills will take wickets, but he will also be expensive. The Seven of Pentacleswarns of giving away unnecessary runs.
