The home season begins, as India host Australia for a limited-overs series. The opening match of the season starts with the first of the five-ODI spectacle at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, on Sunday.
When it comes to the battles between India and Australia, they have much more to offer other than cricket. There often are barrage of controversies, on and off the field.
The current Indian team is incomplete without MS Dhoni. This space apparently is too short to write about him, given his achievements over the years.
The man may have lost the Midas touch, but there is a lot of gas left in the tank.
After a successful Sri Lanka tour, Dhoni will eye on casting his magic on the Australians. However, the path might be bumpy, and one of the many would be leg-spinner Adam Zampa, an opponent Dhoni once played with IPL’s Rising Pune Supergiant.
Both must have faced each other in the nets, jotting down each others’ strengths and weakness. Who emerges victorious, is a question only time can tell.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar vs David Warner:
When Bhuvneshwar executes both pace and seam immaculately, he could rattle any batting order. However, there is one such batsman in the Australian order who could give a tough competition to Bhuvneshwar.
The swashbuckling opener David Warner has the knack to destroy any bowling attack on his day, especially if the conditions are batting-friendly. Although things will not be the same in Chennai, Warner can still go after Bhuvneshwar if he executes his batting smartly, provided Bhuvneshwar fails to execute his plan. These two, too, play for the same IPL franchise.
This is a battle between the captains, personal records, banters, and whatnot.
Kohli will be leading his side for the first time in ODIs against Australia. He has done so in Tests and so handsomely. That being said, Kohli prospers better when he plays against Australians. This series will be no different.
Kohli has always been vocal about Smith. One such instance was seen during the Test series in February 2017, when he almost called Smith a ‘cheat’ for seeking help for DRS from the dressing-room. Although Smith has not been expressive, he will not leave a stone unturned to boggle down Kohli and his men.
Kuldeep Yadav vs Glenn Maxwell:
Kuldeep Yadav has been making headlines for his Chinaman skills. Ever since his international debut, he has been sensational. He was successful against Australia at Dharamsala, and was even more staggering against Sri Lanka in the recently concluded tour.
Against him will be the belligerent Maxwell.
If Kuldeep bowls a false line, Maxwell will send one into the orbit. If Kuldeep gets it right, the chances of Maxwell surviving are remote.
