India vs Bangladesh, Asia Cup T20 2016 Final: Will there be any twist in the usual one-sided story?

Bangladesh will lock horns with India in the final of Asia Cup Twenty20 (T20) 2016 with hosts battling to win their first Asia Cup title, while India looking to continue the T20I winning momentum. They were outclassed in every department in first league match. Bangladesh team looks stronger than ever and look to be strong contenders for India. They have only won in one meeting out of eleven games against each other in the Asia Cup including one this year. As per the past records show India having sure-shot chances of winning the final and Bangladesh has a slim chance to pull it off for the second time in the history of subcontinent clashes. Speculations of who will shine in the final are the talk of the town at the moment. As India and Bangladesh face off on Sunday for the final, a look back at the showdown between these teams over the years:

27 October 1988, Chittagong Stadium, India:

The first encounter between India and Bangladesh in Asia Cup was in 1988 under the leadership of Kapil Dev which turned out to be disastrous match with Bangladesh scoring only 99 runs in a reduced 45 over match with loss of eight wickets. 25 December 1990, Chandigarh, India:

The second meet was the 1st match of Asia Cup 1990 between India and Bangladesh played in India. The visitors scored commendable total of 170 runs in 50 overs which India chased easily winning by 9 wickets and 79 balls to spare alongside a splendid century by former Indian cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu.

5 April 1995, Sharjah Stadium, UAE:

The third meet was no different from the previous one either Bangladesh proving to be unimpressive with their batting line-up who were bundled out for 163 runs under 46 overs. 24 July, 1997, Colombo, Sri Lanka:

No change of fortune this time as Bangladesh managed to score just 130 runs with India chasing it down like a boss within 15 overs and winning the match by 9 wickets and 168 balls to spare with just the required start by Sourav Ganguly who stood tall until the end of the innings. 30 May, 2000, Dhaka, Bangladesh:

For the first time, Bangladesh were playing  against India at their home ground and home conditions worked on their favour enabling them to score competitive score of 249. But yet again Sourav Ganguly’s heroics came to the rescue, decimating Bangladesh bowling attack and went onto score 134 not out. 21 July, 2004, Colombo, Sri Lanka:

The 7 th match of Asia Cup 2004 was when Bangladesh were scored out for 177 under 50 overs. Sourav Ganguly and Sachin Tendulkar’s half-centuries and partnership ensured India comfortable win by 8 wickets over Bangladesh.

28 June, 2008, Karachi, Pakistan:

Bangladesh shocked everyone with their highest scoring total of 283 against India with Alok Kapali’s scoring 115 and in form opener Tamim Iqbal scoring half-century. In response to huge the huge total India was successful to chase down the grand total with help of Suresh Raina scoring century and Gautam Gambhir’s 90 runs.

16 June 2010, Dambulla, Sri Lanka:

Bangladesh went back to their routine with a batting collapse managing to score 167 runs all out. It was Gautam Gambhir half century that saved saw India to reach an approachable total comfortably. 16 March 2012, Dhaka, Bangladesh:

This was a rather crucial match for India with Sachin Tendulkar scoring his 100th international century trying to reach the total of 289 with other contributing cricketers like Suresh Raina and Virat Kohli’s half-centuries. Everything was going as planned until Bangladesh batsmen did not give up until the last over with some successful partnership, high run chasing scores. 26 Feb, 2014, Fatullah, Bangladesh:

India were playing the first match against Bangladesh in Asia Cup 2014. But India were home in the series after winning the match with ease and going par the total of 279 with Virat Kohli’s proving to be the star for the team and Mushfiqur Rahim’s century going down the drain.

24 Feb, 2016, Dhaka, Bangladesh:

This time the format of the game saw some changes with just few days left for the mega event of ICC World T20 2016 being held in India from March 8 and the final of Asia Cup T20 2016 being played on March 6. India and Bangladesh played the first match of tournament with much ease India continuing to hold upper hand in the tournament. Bangladesh faced tough blow in the first match only to prove to be a finalist pitting against India.
