From being a teenage sensation to now India’s most followed, loved and prized (priced) possession –Virat Kohli has showed tremendous evolution. Kohli in an international career span of over 9 years has witnesses the slumps, highs, and the skiers across formats. Kohli is amongst the best batsmen in the current generation, and till Wednesday was the No.1 batsmen in the One-Day International (ODI) format.

Kohli has so far has scripted, reshaped, shattered and possessed ODI records-after-records. Kohli’s evolution from a spike-haired chubby teen in the ICC Under-19 World Cup in 2008 to a robust-bearded man as India’s captain has been an extraordinary expedition.

Kohli made his debut in August 2008, and since then has played 199 ODIs for India. India’s first ODI against New Zealand will mark his 200th ODI for the nation. So far, Kohli has amassed 8,767 runs at 55.13. He has 30 ODI tons and 45 half-centuries with a career best score of 183.

In his young career for India, he has surpassed legends of the game likes Virender Sehwag, Mohammed Azharuddin and Sourav Ganguly already. He is an arm-length away from snatching Sachin Tendulkar’s tally of most ODI hundreds (49).

Kohli has already bypassed the likes of Sanath Jayasuriya, Brian Lara, Kumar Sangakkara, AB de Villiers and is now eyeing the coveted No.1 spot in ODI cricket records.
