Lahore Lions will face Dolphins in the 14th match of the Champions League Twenty 20 (CLT20) 2014 at Bangalore on Saturday. While Dolphins have little chance of making it through to the semis, Lahore Lions still have a hope  if they win their remaining two games. Sameer Jha looks at some of the key battles that can have a significant impact on the result of the game.

1. Cameron Delport vs Aizaz Cheema: Even after having set a target of 243, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) were given a bit of a jolt by the hard hitting Cameron Delport. The Dolphins opener fired his team to a great start scoring 34 from just nine balls. He will look to continue in a similarly aggressive fashion, but might find the going tough against the 35-year-old Lahore Lions bowler Aizaz Cheema. Having been on a hat-trick three times in the qualifiers, Cheema played a key role in helping Lahore Lions reach the tournament proper. His lethal precision with the ball will certainly be an asset for the Lions, and he will be entrusted with the responsibility of silencing the beast that Delport can be.

2.  Khaya Zondo vs Wahab Riaz: Khaya Zondo played a gritty knock in Dolphins’ match against Perth Scorchers. He scored a well-paced 63 from 50 balls, and helped his team post a target that they would have defended had it not been for Mitchell Marsh’s blitz. The 24-year-old South African will have to contend with the fiery Wahab Riaz, who tends to give his best on the field. Riaz will hope to contain and dismiss Zondo, and stop him from scoring too many runs during the death overs.

3. Ahmed Shahzad vs Kyle Abbott: Shahzada also means prince, and Ahmed Shahzad certainly plays like one at times. He strikes the ball cleanly, and can dispatch the best of bowlers for boundaries and sixes. He will be up against Dolphins’ Kyle Abbott, who was recently given a chance to play for South Africa in their tour to Zimbabwe. Abbott bowled beautifully in his initial overs against Perth Scorchers, and then again restricted CSK at the death. He would want to dismiss Shahzad early in the Lahore Lions’ innings.

4. Umar Akmal vs Robbie Frylinck: Umar Akmal was once tipped to be Pakistan’s next batting great. However, his inconsistent performance has seen him lose several fans. The middle-order batsman looked in good touch against the talented bowling attack of the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), and will hope to come good against the Dolphins too. He could face stiff resistance from Robbie Frylinck, who has had a tragic CLT20 so far. Frylinck was bowling beautifully in the game against Perth Scorchers, until his last two deliveries where he was hit for consecutive sixes by Mitchell Marsh to give Scorchers a sensational win. The incident may have left a deep scar on Frylinck’s psyche, which was aggravated in Dolphins’ game against CSK. He would hope to put the past behind him against the Lahore Lions, and salvage some therapy for his wounds.
