Nasir Jamshed’s Man-of-the-Series Trophy, which was believed to have been left behind in India by the Pakistani batsman, could not be retrieved by the officials, who later declared it as missing. However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) sought the help of the CID, who were successful in finding the trophy in quick time. The trophy was found lying in Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s cabinet!

Despite many attempts by senior inspectors Daya and Abhijeet, Dhoni refused to give back the trophy as he held it firmly to his chest. When probed by ACP Pradyuman, the Indian captain revealed he did not steal it but took it home, with permission from Srini Sir (BCCI chief N Srinivasan), to be kept at his home for few days so that it could act as a morale booster for him ahead of the five-match One-Day International (ODI) series against England.

Cricket is a game of confidence. Just like the Man-of-the-Match Award for the final ODI, that I bought got, gave me lot of confidence, the Man-of-the-Series trophy would have really been an encouragement for me ahead of the England series,” Dhoni explained to the CID team.

The Indian captain confessed that he wanted to lay his hands on the ODI series trophy that Pakistan as it could have been much bigger morale-booster. “Unfortunately, I could not do that as the entire Pakistan team was celebrating in Misbah-ul-Haq’s room. That’s when I decided to settle for Jamshed’s trophy,” which the Pakistan opener thought he had forgot in India.

Following this incident, reports of rifts within the Indian team was doing the media rounds. According to a report, Indian opener Gautam Gambhir was very upset with Dhoni as he wanted to grab the Jamshed’s trophy first as he was more out-of-form than the Indian captain and if anyone needed a morale-booster, it was him!
