In the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2014, Kings XI Punjab, Kolkata Knight Riders, Chennai Super Kings and defending champions, Mumbai Indians have qualified for playoffs. In the first Qualifier of IPL 7 playoffs, table toppers, Punjab will take on Kolkata at Eden Gardens. The winner of the match will progress towards the final, while the loser gets another chance by playing the winner of the eliminator at Wankhede stadium, Mumbai. In the eliminator, Chennai will take on Mumbai at Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai. The final will take place at Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore.
The tournament began in United Arab Emirates (UAE) on April 16, 2014. The first 20 games of the league were played in UAE. The IPL Governing Council had confirmed the schedule of the second leg would be held in India. So, the remaining matches of IPL 7, including the later stages of the tournament were scheduled to be played in India.
Going into the playoffs, Punjab have been the form team of the tournament. They won 11 out of 14 games to qualify for the playoffs. Kolkata, Chennai and Mumbai had their fair share of ups and downs. But were able qualify for the playoffs. Punjab though, will have a task on their hands when they take on Kolkata, as they will be playing Kolkata at their home ground, Eden Gardens.
