Peter Baxter: The accidental racist

Peter Baxter is a renowned name in the world of cricket commentary, having given 34 years to BBC Radio; he is a voice behind the much-loved Test Match Special on Radio 4 along with Henry Blofeld.

Once Baxter was commentating in the Benson and Hedges Final between Gloucestershire and Kent. While replying to a huge score of Gloucestershire, Kent collapsed.

The Pakistani recruit Asif Iqbal was soon out, followed by West Indian all-rounder Bernard Julien and finally Kent and Barbados star John Shepherd. Baxter noted, oblivious to political incorrectness, “The situation for Kent is getting blacker and blacker.”
