1st batsman to score 180 or more thrice in ODIs — Martin Guptill. He had scored an unbeaten 189 against England at Southampton in 2013. Then came the 237 not out against West Indies in World Cup 2015 — still the highest score in World Cup cricket. He got 180 not out today, against South Africa at Hamilton. Earlier, Guptill shared the record of two 180s with Viv Richards (189* against England in 1984 and 181 against Sri Lanka in 1987-88), Sachin Tendulkar (186* against New Zealand in 1999-2000 and 200* against South Africa in 2009-10) and Rohit Sharma (209 against Australia in 2013-14 and 264 against Sri Lanka in 2014-15).

64.28% runs scored by Guptill out of New Zealand’s team total. This is the 4th-highest by anyone in a completed innings after Richards’ 189* out of 272 (69.48), Kapil Dev’s 175* out of 266 (65.78) and Rohit’s 264 out of 404 (65.34).

1st instance of two spinners opening bowling in an ODI. Previously, there have been 8 instances of two spinners opening bowling in the second innings in an ODI. Jeetan Patel and Mitchell Santner opened bowling for New Zealand in the 4th ODI against South Africa at Hamilton. This is also the 12th instance that this happened across formats. While there have been 10 such instances in T20Is, the only instance in Test cricket happened at Kanpur in 1963-64, where ML Jaisimha and Salim Durrani opened bowling against England.

Prior to this ODI, de Kock had hit 5 consecutive fifties. Had he scored another fifty plus, de Kock would have broken the South African record for fifties in most consecutive innings — a record he shares with Gary Kirsten (twice) and Daryll Cullinan.
