2nd time Mumbai Indians (MI) have ended the league stage of IPL as table-topper. The first time they did this feat was in 2010. Chennai Super Kings (CSK), in 2013 and 2015, and Deccan Chargers (DC), in 2009 and 2012, had also achieved this. Interestingly, none of them went on to win the tournament that year. This is also the fourth time MI has ended up among the top two spots. CSK have also done this four times in IPL history.

5 times MI have encountered a team with MS Dhoni in Playoffs. Dhoni was playing for CSK on all 5 occasions. Till 2015 MI had never won any match in Playoffs against CSK but they beat them twice in Playoffs that season. This is also the first time they will play a side with Dhoni in it, but not as captain.

3 wins for MI out of 5 in this season while batting first. However, they have won 6 out of 9 while chasing. RPS, on the other hand, have performed equally well, whether batting first or second. RPS have won 4 out of 7 matches while batting first and 5 out 7 while chasing.

1 win for MI against Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS) from 4 encounters. Their only win against came in their first clash in previous edition of Indian Premier League (IPL). Moreover, RPS are the only team to beat MI twice in this season of the tournament.

5 out of 7 matches won by MI at Wankhede this season. Both their defeats came while chasing, against RPS and Kings XI Punjab (KXIP).

1st instance of RPS playing in Playoffs. It is also a first for Ashok Dinda, who will feature in the top four teams for the first time. Dinda has been playing IPL since first edition of the tournament, but none of his teams before 2018 has ever made it to the Playoffs.

2 times RPS successfully defended the total of 160 or below against MI in 4 encounters, once in this season and the other in 2016. One of these occasions came at Wankhede, where they will be clashing once again in the Playoffs.

168 runs scored by Ajinkya Rahane — who plays for Mumbai in domestic cricket — for RPS against MI. On the other hand, MI’s leading run-scorer against RPS is Rohit Sharma (153), who also represents Mumbai in domestic levels.
