After a cautious start early in the first over, Roy whacked two boundaries off Bhuvneshwar and then turned up the heat on Bipul Sharma in his next over. He looked set for a big score, but a tight decision went against him when Shikhar Dhawan claimed a low catch at short midwicket. Roy looked due for a big score, but it did not happen at least on Sunday.

Rashid Khan rattles Gujarat Lions: The Afghanistan spinner, who has attracted a lot of eyeballs, continued to live up to the billing and claimed the Purple Cap in IPL 2017 only in his second game. Rashid claimed 3 for 19 off his 4 overs, and his strikes in quick succession rattled the Gujarat Lions, who had made a positive start to this contest. Rashid trapped Brendon McCullum, to begin with, and would have dismissed Suresh Raina off the first ball had David Warner held on to the catch. He eventually claimed the big wicket of Gujarat Lions captain, trapping him for a mere 5. Rashid also accounted for Aaron Finch.

Identical debuts for Basil Thampi and Tejas Baroka: Gujarat Lions picked up the Kerala speedster Thampi for this clash, who is reputed for bowling consistently at 145 kmph. The 21-year-old Tejas Baroka was also handed IPL debut, but the leg-spinner got off to a rather disappointing start with Warner cracking two consecutive boundaries first-up. Thampi, on the other hand, was brought on to bowl in the 10th over, and Warner thwacked two boundaries off the first two balls to hand out the fast bowler a similar treatment.

Warner the shoe-picker: On the final ball of the 10th over from Thampi, Warner showed tremendous presence of mind, rather, had some fun in the middle. The bowler skidded in his follow-through and one of his boots came off. Warner, who was at non-striker s end, stopped midway, picked up the boot, and handed it to the bowler before progressing to complete the run. Warner was all smiles after his act!

Warner is back: Warner did not only make a splendid unbeaten half-century, but he was also on a record-making spree. Warner completed his 7,000 runs in T20 cricket, but remarkably, he leapfrogged Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) Gautam Gambhir in scoring most half-centuries in IPL history. Warner s 76 not out was his 33rd half-century in IPL, which came off a mere 44 balls, 6 boundaries and 3 sixes.

Warner also completed 2,000 runs in IPL, and 1,000 runs at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Uppal, Hyderabad.

Mr Consistency: Henriques proved his mettle once again and showcased his batting prowess along with consistency. Henriques brought up his second half-century in as many matches, and so far, he is the only batsman across all eight teams to get consecutive fifties. Henriques added 108 runs for the second wicket with Warner, and reached 52 not out off 39 balls.
