It’s the season of cricketers’ biopics – right from Emraan Hashmi’s “Azhar” to Sushant Singh Rajput’s “MS Dhoni” to the biggest one of them all – “Sachin”, the teaser of which was released recently to unprecedented fanfare. However, what’s coming up next will be totally insurmountable. Bollywood’s biopic specialist, director Ram Gopal Varma has announced that his next project would be a biopic on the life of Indian cricketing legend Sir Ravindra Jadeja and the lead role would be essayed by, hold your breath, none other than Superstar Rajinikanth!

“It’s raining biopics on cricketers. It’s about time I put the end in trend and here I am, making a biopic which can never be surpassed. Making a biopic on Sir Jadeja is the ultimate euphoria which one can achieve. The movie will be called ‘Sir’ and it’s only apt that I have the superman of cinema, Superstar Rajinikanth to play Jaddu. Both their lives have had similar trajectories – from being a nobody at first, Sir has become India’s finest all-rounder and of course, India’s first unofficially knighted cricketer,” the Rangeela director told The UnReal Times.

Superstar Rajinikanth took to social media to express his delight, stating that it was his life’s biggest privilege to get an opportunity to play Sir Jadeja on screen. The Superstar’s friend, the Big B of Bollywood, Amitabh Bachchan, however, had a word of caution. ” T – 666: @superstarrajini to play Sir @imjadeja in @rgvzoomin’s next biopic. Wow! Only hope it doesn’t become Rajini ki Aag! Hahahaha” tweeted the Shahenshah, before RGV replied that the Big B would still prefer Aag to the Panama Papers any day.

The news has already drawn reactions from British monarch Queen Elizabeth. “One has heard about this Sir which one hasn’t knighted yet, from Kate and William after their recent India trip. One wishes to see the movie at the earliest – Sir oru run adicha nooru run adicha maadiri! 🙂 [If Sir hits one run, it’s like he’s hit 100 runs]” (sic) a statement from the British Monarchy read.

In what could, however, pose some competition, music channel MTV has announced that they are mulling a biopic on Indian cricketing sensation Virat Kohli, starring Roadies’ Raghu Ram. “With Pahlaj Nihalani at the helm of affairs in CBFC, it could become India’s next silent movie after Pushpak, though,” an MTV spokesperson said, after a script discussion with Bollywood actor and polio awareness promoter Jackie Shroff.
