India will take on Pakistan in the fourth match of the Asia Cup 2015-16 at Dhaka. In build up to that it would be great to look at some of the spectacular performances from individuals from both sides in the previous editions of the tournament, the change in format notwithstanding. Shoaib Malik scored a valiant unbeaten 125 against India in the group stages of the Asia Cup 2008, to take his side to a commanding score of 299, which ultimately proved well short in defence. Nevertheless this was a very well compiled innings. His innings was a great testimony to his generous batting ability as he played a wide range of strokes. Unfortunately for him and for his team, he walked out limping at the end of the 40th over with Pakistan’s score at 219 for 1. His departure triggered a couple of quick wickets impeding Pakistan’s ability to make most of a fantastic platform. He seemed equally adept tackling spin as well as spin bowling, and he made every part of the ground yield him runs. But, he was only a passive spectator when Virender Sehwag and Suresh Raina took the game away from their arch-rivals in great style. Sehwag scored 199 off just 95 balls, while Raina scored a 69-ball 84, helping India chase down 300 in just 42.1 overs with six wickets to spare. Nevertheless, Malik’s knock was one to remember for the sheer craft and skill in it.
