South Africa skipper AB de Villiers has lived up to his stature of ‘Superman’ of Cricket in Indian Premier League (IPL) season 9. AB was third highest run-getter in the tournament with 697 runs from 16 matches at an average 52.84 that includes a brilliant unbeaten knock of 129, sharing a 229 run stand with Virat Kohli against Gujarat Lions (GL). The last time he faced West Indies, it was unstoppable innings of 162 runs off 66 deliveries in the mega event of ICC World Cup 2015. That innings holds the record of fastest 150 in 64 balls. In the current game, de Villiers needs to step up as the skipper to lead his team from the front. The last time South Africa toured West Indies, theynwon the ODI series 5-0. South Africa has an amazing track record against West Indies in recent times. They have lost only one from the last 18 ODI matches. De Villiers is leading the ODI squad and will seek assistance from T20 captain Faf Du Plessis. He has grown as a batsman, living up to the task in tough situations. There have been some changes in the Proteas side. Tabraiz Shamsi is set to make his debut shortly. This will the stage for Shamsi to use his services judiciously. Shamsi was his teammate in RCB and bowled decently for start. AB has the responsibility of whole squad on his shoulders. Proteas are currently on No.3 spot in ICC Rankings. They will be going up against World Champions Australia who are clear favorites going into the Tri-series. AB has an impressive ODI record with 8,621 runs at an average of 54.56. He has scored 24 centuries and 48 half centuries in his career. He is expected to deliver every time he walks in to bat. If they win this series, there is a strong chance they get past New Zealand and grab No.2 spot in the ICC Rankings. South Africa are set to begin their campaign against hosts and will be aiming for a win to start off the proceedings in the Tri-series.
