Year-ender 2016: Jasprit Bumrah’s impressive numbers and other bowling statistics from T20Is

Top wicket-takers: Jasprit Bumrah (28), Ravichandran Ashwin (23), Rashid Khan (23), Al-Amin Hossain (22) and Amjad Javed (22). Bumrah’s 28 wickets are the highest by any bowler in a calendar year. He went past Dirk Nannes’ record of 27 wickets in 2010.

Right-arm bowlers picked 801 wickets in 2016, the most in any calendar year. The previous best was of 703 in 2012. On the other hand, left-handers had 335, also the most in a calendar year.

Spinners picked up 440 wickets, the most in a year (beating the previous best of 360 in 2012), while pacers had 688, again the highest.

Best figures in a match: Imad Wasim, with 5 for 14, followed by Mustafizur Rahman, with 5 for 22. Imad’s figures are the 3rd best by a Pakistani in T20Is.

Most wickets on a single ground: Al-Amin Hossain tops the chart with 11 wickets at Shere Bangla National Stadium, Mirpur, Dhaka.

Most wickets in a series: Amjad leads with 12 wickets in Asia Cup T20. Had Amjad taken 4 more, he would have broken the all-time record of most wickets in a tournament, which is held by Ajantha Mendis for 15 wickets World T20 2012.

Most wickets against a single opposition: Ashwin takes top spot in this list with 11 wickets against Sri Lanka, followed by Adam Milne with 10 against Pakistan. Ashwin has a total of 13 wickets against Sri Lanka; another 2 will make him break the Saeed Ajmal’s 14.

Best bowling average (15 wickets): Mustafizur leads this list with his impressive average of 12.18 across 16 wickets, followed by Santner (12.53; 15 wickets). Mustafizur’s average is the best by any Bangladeshi in a calendar year.

Best bowling strike rate (15 wickets): Al-Amin picked wickets at the rate of 11.4 balls per wicket, the best by any bowler in 2016. He is followed by Amjad (11.7) and Mustafizur (11.9).

Best economy rate (15 overs): Naveed of Afghanistan leads the list with his economy rate of 5.24 from 55.4 overs he bowled in 14 T20Is. He is followed by Adam Zampa (5.96 from 27 overs, 8 T20Is).

Most runs conceded: Bumrah leads this unwanted chart by leaking 527 runs in the year. In fact, the 527 runs he conceded are the highest by a bowler. He went past Umar Gul’s record of conceding 436 runs in 2012.

Similarly, Thisara also became the second-most expensive bowler from Sri Lanka (beating Sanath Jayasuriya’s record of conceding 64 runs against Pakistan in 2007).

Most 4-wicket hauls: Mohammad Nabi‘s two 4-wicket hauls is the most in T20Is this year. A total of 21 bowlers took 4-wicket hauls in 2016. No bowler has ever taken more than two 4-wicket hauls in a calendar year in T20Is.

Most wickets in wins:  With 20 wickets Bumrah holds the top spot in the list. He equalled the overall record of Nannes for taking most wickets in a calendar year. Nannes also took 20 wickets in 2010.

A total of 702 wickets came on winning causes this year, the most in a year.

Most wickets in defeats: Amjad leads the way here with 15 wickets, the most in a year on losing causes. The previous best was of 12 wickets by Ajmal in 2010.

A total of 423 wickets came in defeats this year, the most in a calendar year (beating the previous best of 312 in 2012) and takes the count to 2,479.

Most maidens: Bumrah tops this list with 4 maidens this year, which is the most in any calendar year.

A total of 47 maidens were bowled this year, the most in a calendar year. The previous best was 46 maidens in 2012.

Best figures by debutant: Barinder Sran‘s 4 for 10 against Zimbabwe is the best figures by a debutant in 2016. These are also the second-best bowling figures by a debutant in T20Is (after Elias Sunny’s 5 for 13 against Ireland in 2012).

Bowlers who entered 50-wicket club: Shakib Al Hasan, Bravo, Sohail Tanvir, Kulasekara, Nabi and Ashwin. Shakib also became the 7th-fastest to 50 T20I wickets and fastest from Bangladesh.

Hat-tricks: Thisara took the only hat-trick of the year, against India at Ranchi. He dismissed Hardik Pandya, Suresh Raina and Yuvraj Singh.
