India won the fifth and final One-Day International (ODI) of the series against Australia and once again the match witnessed several records being made and broken. India finally managed to get a taste of triumph in the series and one should not undermine the stellar performances by Indian batsmen, especially from their top order as they have done in every match. The series was full of big scores with at least one batsman scoring a century in every match. As the series ended 4-1 in favour of Australia, Abhishek Kumar makes a pick of 13 interesting statistical and fun facts from final ODI at the grand Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG).
1. Five centuries made by Indian batsmen in this series in a losing cause, which is the most by any team in a single ODI series.
2. We saw big totals in every match and in total there were 3159 runs scored in the series, which is the most in any bilateral ODI series featuring five games or less.
3. India chased down the total of 330 runs at Sydney in the fifth ODI, which is the first instance of any team chasing more than 300 against Australia in Australia.
4. For the very first time in the series, both sides lost three of their wickets for under a score of 150 in the fifth ODI.
5. Australia’s captain Steve Smith got out this time early by scoring 28, which is his lowest score in ODIs against India so far.
6. Throughout the series, most runs were added for the second wicket partnership. In all,863 runs were added by the various second wicket partnerships, which is the most in any bilateral ODI series.
7. Rohit Sharma scored 99 in the fifth and missed out on his third century in the series. During this course, he became the first Indian player score more than 400 runs in a bilateral ODI series outside India.
8. Manish Pandey scored a match winning hundred in thisODI and it took only three innings for his maiden ton, which is the fewest by any Indian batsman.
9. This is only the third time in Australia’s cricket history when they lost the match after two of their batsman scored centuries in an ODI. Co-incidentally, other three instances also came against India.
10. Rohit is now the only Indian batsman to make 99 against Australia in the ODI format and third overall. The other two are Geoffrey Boycott (1980) and Andy Flower (1999).
11. There were total of 11 centuries made throughout the series, which is the most number of hundreds in any bilateral ODI series.
12. Australian opener Aaron Finch’s dismissal is the first LBW of the series.
13. 52 sixes were hit in this series by both sides, which is the most in any bilateral series in Australia.
