The Chris Gayle plunder against Zimbabwe in the 2015 ICC World Cup game at Canberra smashed many One-Day International and World Cup records. Criclife looks at some of the records and milestones Gayle established enroute his epic 215 off 147 balls.

  • Chris Gayle became the first man to score a double hundred in World Cup history. The previous highest in World Cup was 188 not out by Gary Kirsten against the UAE in 1996.
  • Chris Gayle scored the fastest ODI double hundred — 138 balls — to break Virender Sehwag’s record of 140 balls.
  • Chris Gayle moved from 100 to 200 in 33 balls. The fastest hundred in ODIs came in 31 balls by AB de Villiers against the West Indies last month.
  • Chris Gayle-Marlon Samuel partnership of 372 is the highest partnership for any wicket in all One-Day Internationals. The partnership beat the 331 runs partnership set by Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid against New Zealand at Hyderabad in 1999.
  • Chris Gayle’s 16 sixes equaled the record in ODI history jointly held by Rohit Sharma (209 vs Australia, Bangalore, in 2013) and AB de Villiers (149 vs WI, Johannesburg, 2015).
  • Chris Gayle is the only batsman in cricket history to score a triple hundred in Tests, double hundred in ODIs and hundred in T20 Internationals.
