‘Delighted’ Virat Kohli congratulates coach Raj Kumar Sharma on receiving Dronacharya Award

Kohli could not be happier as the announcement was made and almost immediately took to his Twitter handle to congratulate his coach.

India’s national sports awards for the year 2016 got announced on Monday and cricketer Ajinkya Rahane was bestowed with the Arjuna award. Though he was the only cricketer to get any national sports award this year, there was another cricketing connection in the list of awardees. Team India’s Test skipper Virat Kohli’s coach Raj Kumar Sharma was named for this year’s ‘Dronacharya Award’. ALSO READ: Ajinkya Rahane and 48 other cricketers who received Arjuna Award.

The award, which is the top honour for a coach, will be given for the year 2015-16 to Sharma, who has coached the Indian run-machine. Kohli could not be happier as the announcement was made and almost immediately took to his Twitter handle to congratulate his coach. He wrote:

Raj Kumar Sharma was a well-deserved candidate for the honour as he has given India the biggest sporting gift in a long time in the form of Kohli. Sharma himself was a First-Class cricketer and has played nine First-Class matches in his career span.
