The Kevin Pietersen saga continues, who was controversially axed after last year’s Ashes defeat in Australia has expressed his grit to regain his place in the England side.
After newly appointed chairman of England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) Colin Graves has kept the door open for the batsman’s return, Pietersen, in order to seal his place back in the England’s squad has refused to take part in the eighth edition of the cash-rich Indian Premiere League (IPL) and has instead opted to play county cricket with Surrey.
But, England’s Coach Peter Moores is not in favour of the former skipper and says that his total focus is on the three-match Test series in the West Indies.
“At the end of that summer (2014) we`d gone through a tough summer, and started to play the sort of attacking cricket people like, and we like. That`s our focus at the moment,” Moores said in a report from AFP. “From my point of view, Kevin isn`t on the radar. So he can`t be in my or Cooky`s focus at all,” Moores added.
England’s Test skipper Alastair Cook isn’t interested if Pietersen is playing for England or not. He believes that it is down to the ECB to decide the batsman’s fate. (Read: Kevin Pietersen ‘not part’ of England’s plans, says selector James Whitaker)
As reported by Guardian, Cook said, “We have 16 guys going to West Indies, desperate to turn around our cricket. The brand of cricket, it’s about the series. [Pietersen] is for ECB hierarchy to deal with.”
After a forgettable ICC Cricket World Cup 2015, England will now tour West Indies for a three match Test series, which will begin from April 13.
