Afghanistan created history on Sunday when they beat strong contenders West Indies in their ICC World T20 2016 match, which happened to be the last league match for both the teams. The win, which came after three consecutive losses, was marked by jubilant celebration in the Afghan camp. In all those previous games, the team had its moments and had come closer to a win. But finally when they tasted success against a much stronger team, their joy knew no bounds.
The entire team broke into an impromptu jig while celebrating on the field and when the players returned near their dug-out, they were joined by Chris Gayle from their opposition camp, which only lifted their mood further. While the team had been winning hearts of the fans worldwide with their steady rise, the performances were not translating into wins. But the team will win more often from here on, if we go by the words of their all-rounder and former captain Mohammad Nabi.
In a tweet immediately after the match, star Afghanistan player Nabi said that the team had enough of winning the hearts and it was perhaps the time to start winning matches.
I think so we have had enough of winning the hearts of cricket fans so this time we won the match. pic.twitter.com/X51us3fkh3

It is always a pleasant sight in sports if the underdogs win, and with Afghanistan beating West Indies, it was a happy moment not just for their fans, but for cricket fans in general. Hopefully the team will repeat such performances more often in future, which will undoubtedly augur well for world cricket.
