The three-and-half year-old marriage of Graeme Smith, the former skipper of the South African cricket team, with Irish pop star Morgan Deane is over.

“I confirm that Graeme and Morgan are unfortunately divorcing. This is obviously a private matter and the couple would ask that their privacy is respected during this time, both for the sake of themselves and their children,” lawyer David Becker, acting on behalf of the couple, told the media.

The couple have a daughter, Cadence Christine Smith, 3, and a son, Carter McMorrin Smith, who is a year-and-a-half old.

Smith, 34, played 117 Tests for South Africa before retiring in 2014, citing family commitments. He is remembered for heading straight to Ireland to meet his then girlfriend Deane after the Proteas choked at the World Cup final in India in 2011. He drew tremendous flak for dumping his team mates to face an angry crowd on their return home.
The couple always had a very lovey-dovey, romantic public profile and hence this divorce comes as a shock to those who weren’t privy to their personal life. Morgan once said that her husband was a rockstar in bed.
