Ashish Nehra and his apprehensions with social media and smart phones is not a myth. While his old buddy Virender Sehwag has become a Twitter legend and spams the space with ‘Nehra ji‘ tweets when the Delhi pacer plays, the man himself has no clue about the platform.
Repeatedly, he has said that he is alien to the medium of social media and still uses a Nokia 1100. During the IPL 2016, he famously mentioned how his former teammate and current mentor VVS Laxman has been after him to come on Twitter.
“VVS Laxman is on my case to make me come on social media, but I am not coming anytime soon. It consumes too much time. I am too busy trying to keep myself fit. We are playing a game every alternate day and so I don’t have time for all this,” Nehra had said. ALSO READ: 8 facts about Ashish Nehra
However, things are changing. Now undergoing rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru after a knee surgery in London, Nehra was present alongside his ex-brigade of left-arm pacers, Zaheer Khan and Irfan Pathan at the team launch of Chepauk Super Gillies for the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL).
In an interview to Times of India, Nehra revealed about his latest acquisition. When asked if he still uses his Nokia 1100, Nehra laughed, “No, I don’t. I have got an I-phone and the new thing I have learnt is WhatsApp, that’s as far as I have gone. I still do not know how to send an e-mail but yes, I know how to send messages on WhatsApp.”
A pro at pace bowling and one of the very few active cricketers who debuted in last century, Nehra is taking baby steps to the world of social media. We wish him all the best!
