Shreyas Iyer made the headlines in the 2015 Indian Premier Leage (IPL) auctions when he was roped in by Delhi Daredevils (DD) for a whopping price of 2.6 crores. He justified his selection as he finished the tournament as the highest run getter for his steam.
IPL has often changed many cricketers life and surely Iyer’s too. The 20-year-old right-handed batsman has been highly inspired by Usain Bolt and Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The explosive top order batsman has been in te news all for good reasons in the recent times.
Speaking exclusively in an interview with ESPNCricinfo, Iyer said, “It didn’t change me, but it changed other people (laughs). Before the IPL, the girls who I used to message didn’t care to reply. After the IPL, the same girls who used to talk to me occasionally started messaging me everyday. After that I stopped talking to them.”
It seems IPL has added more colour to Iyer’s life but he is all focused and dedicated towards his goals. Iyer has earned accolades from many greats of the game for his flawless technique and unblemished batting. His double tn against Punjab in this year’s edition of Ranji Trophy made Yuvraj Singh spot his sheer talent. Yuvraj tweeted saying:
The young wiz kid played an exceptional knock today @shreyaasiyer03 took the game away from us ! Player to watch for the future

Iyer also slammed a 114 ball 137 for Mumbai against Uttar Pradesh on Day One. Regarding his consistent performances in the Ranji Trophy, Rohit Sharma was quoted in a report from Cricbuzz saying, “I had heard from people in our (Mumbai) dressing room that he’s been in good nick. I’m glad with the way he is batting. I was enjoying it from the other end. He reminded me of Sehwag a little bit, because that’s how he used to bat. He batted pretty well. Whatever he’s been doing of late, it’s pretty good to see that.”
