West Indies cricket in the recent years have attracted several unwanted controversies and it is something that they invite on themselves. The players-board relationship has hit a low in the recent years and it turned ugly when the players abandoned the India tour last year. The omissions of Dwayne Bravo and Kieron Pollard from the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 squad created a furore. Star cricketer Chris Gayle, who hails from Jamaica, openly spoke against the decision and called it “ridiculous selection.”
Earlier on Saturday, after opener Gayle fell for another low score against Pakistan at Christchurch, the WICB (West Indies Cricket Board) president, Dave Cameron, re-tweeted a comment from a fan that read:
“Gayle goes ..can’t buy a run ..let’s give him a retirement package ..can’t fail repeatedly and still front up based on reputation”.
It was the most insensitive act by someone who leads the cricket board of the islands.
It was clear that there’s too less amity between the star batsman Gayle and the boss Cameron. Throughout the day, there were rumours circulating on Twitter that Gayle had received a disciplinary letter from the board for his comments on selection.

After West Indies managed a big win against Pakistan, Cameron had to delete his Tweet, for which he was heavily criticised in the social media. He offered apologies.

It was unexpected from a person at his position and stature, and he was rightly criticised on the platform for the same. Thankfully senses prevailed and he rendered an apology but knowing Gayle, he isn’t someone to take things lying down. Not alien to controversies, it will be interesting to see how the outspoken Gayle reacts to this.
