India vs Zimbabwe first ODI: Three players make India debut; first such instance since 2010

When the young Indian team led by MS Dhoni left the shores of the country to travel to Zimbabwe, it was a certainty that few players will get to make their debut. There were as many as six players in the squad who were yet to play a limited-overs game. On Saturday, when the first ODI between the two teams began, three Indians made their debut. KL Rahul — who has played Test cricket for India — Karun Nair and Yuzvendra Chahal got their India caps before the beginning of the match in a customary ceremony. The pictures of that small function with Team India in a huddle were shared by BCCI’s official Twitter handle. This was the first instance of three players making their ODI debut for India in the same match in last six years. The players who missed out on making their debuts in this game were Mandeep Singh, Jayant Yadav and Faiz Fazal. If they get to play their first game together in any of the coming matches, it will be yet another occasion of three players getting ODI caps in the same match.
