Just a few days back, even as the Indian fans were still recovering from a shock loss against Zimbabwe in the first of the three T20Is, a huge controversy erupted after local media carried reports of an Indian cricketer being arrested on charges of rape. After brief moments of frenzy came a sigh of relief, as it was revealed that the accused were not a part of the Indian contingent. ALSO READ: Team India member arrested on rape charges in Zimbabwe?
One of them is an Indian individual associated with the sponsors of the series while the other is a businessman of Indian origin. Recently, a report in The Indian Express revealed the identities of the individuals, who have been identified as Krishna Satyanarayan, linked with ITW Sports, and Rajkumar Krishnan, a Zambia-based businessman. “Two Indian nationals, Krishna Satyanarayan, aged 33, and Rajkumar Krishnan were arrested on rape charges. The girl was based in South Africa and attending a funeral in Harare. She was staying at the same hotel as those two and alleged that she was raped by them. Police have confirmed that the woman was raped. The two accused were taken to court and remanded in custody yesterday. They will apply for bail in the High Court on Monday,” Charity Charamba, Senior Assistant Commissioner, Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) told the daily.
The duo was staying at Meikles Hotel, where the incident occurred. The Indian team was also staying at the same place and hence the confusion happened. “He (Krishna) is not from our company. He is from one of our affiliate companies (iTeamWorks). That company deals in ground activities. What I have heard is that he was arrested on alleged charges of molestation,” Interestingly, Murali Srinivasan, CEO of Technolog Frontier told the daily. Team India has leveled the series 1-1 after winning the second game on Monday. The third and the final T20I will be played on Wednesday.
