Chennai is all set to witness the clash of two strong outfits. Chennai Super Kings (CSK) lock horns with Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) in the 24th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) at the Chidambaram stadium. Both the teams have arrived with analogous results in their previous encounters, while CSK demolished Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), KXIP won a thrilling super over contest against Rajasthan Royals (RR) to end the latter’s dream run in the tournament.
For CSK no stone was left unturned as they won four matches from their five outings and are comfortably placed at the second position in the points table but will not take things easy against the side that eliminated them in the last edition. Raina’s parched run was a major concern for the CSK, but Raina rediscovered his form with a ravishing half century against RCB in their previous encounter. Dwayne Smith and Faf Du Plessis too chipped in to help CSK set a huge target of 181 for RCB to chase.
Their bowling department has enough ammunition with the likes of Ashish Nehra, Ravichandran Ashwin and Dwayne Bravo. Except Nehra all others have failed to make an impact in the tournament yet.
KXIP ended the Rajasthan Royals (RR) winning streak with an electrifying super over victory! RR set a target of 192 for KXIP to chase after being asked to bat first. In reply, KXIP got off to a shaky start. Shaun Marsh and David Miller were the stars of the day as they helped their side to secure a tie. The man with the most runs for KXIP didn’t get a chance for the first four games and played this game as their skipper George Bailey was out with a shoulder injury. He grabbed this opportunity and ensured that he gave them the momentum they needed. He scored 64 off 40 deliveries and played a crucial knock in the super over too. Miller made sure the game never drifted away with his knock of 54 which came off 30 deliveries. KXIP are high on confidence and their morale is boosted and will look forward to beat CSK in their own den. With the match being played at Chennai, CSK emerge as favourites.
