IPL 8: JP Duminy announced as Delhi Daredevils captain

The ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 is almost over and in two weeks time, the eighth edition of Indian Premier League (IPL) will kick-start in Kolkata with defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) facing Mumbai Indians (MI).

 

Delhi Daredevils (DD) having finished last in the seventh edition went for an overhaul and released big chunk of players ahead of the auctions. One of the released players was their captain Kevin Pietersen who was picked up by Sunrisers Hyderabad.

 

The Delhi franchise on Thursday announced South African all-rounder JP Duminy as their captain for the forthcoming season. Duminy was roped in by the Delhi last season and was the star performer for the franchise.

 

“I’m grateful for the support and belief from the franchisee. It’s an absolute privilege to lead such a talented mix of players. I am excited about the season ahead and sincerely hope, we will be able to turn around the fortunes of Delhi Daredevils in the upcoming IPL season,” Duminy said in a statement in the report on PTI.

Delhi’s head coach Gary Kirsten added: “JP [Duminy] is the right choice to lead the team for the upcoming season. He has the necessary experience and demeanour to take the team forward. I have seen him progress and mature as a player and leader through the years with the South African national team.”
