The second match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2016 was played between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Delhi Daredevils (DD) at Eden Gardens on Sunday. Just like the first game, this was another low scoring game. After winning the toss, DD were invited to bat and from the very beginning, every batsman kept throwing their wickets and no player could cross the 20-run mark. In the end, they were bowled out for mere 98, which KKR chased down easily with the loss only wicket. With the conclusion of second game of IPL 2016, once again, few records were set and Abhishek Kumar presents such interesting statistical highlights from the match.
1. Zaheer Khan becomes third older player to make his captaincy debut in IPL at the age of 37 years and 186 days. The other two oldest players to make their captaincy debut are Shane Warne at 39 and Adam Gilchrist at 37 years 174 days.
2. Zaheer is also the most experienced player of IPL to make his captaincy debut in the tournament. He captained after playing 77 matches as player.
3. This is the sixth time when DD lost their four wickets in the Powerplays in IPL.
4. This is the seventh instance of DD being bowled out under 100 runs, which is the most by any team in IPL.
5. With one wicket to his name, Amit Mishra became the second highest wicket taker in IPL with 112 wickets and highest wicket taker as an Indian bowler in this tournament. He surpassed Piyush Chawla and Harbhajan Singh’s tally.
6. With two wickets to his name, Chawla became the joint third highest wicket taker in IPL with 111 wickets. Harbhajan has also same number of wickets under his name.
7. Robin Uthappa scored 35 runs and crossed 3,000-run mark in IPL. He is the sixth player to score 3,000 runs in IPL.
8. Uthappa and Gautam Gambhir shared 69 for the first wicket. They have now put up 981 runs for the first wicket between them, which is the second highest by any opening pair in IPL.
9. KKR won the match by nine wickets with 35 balls remaining. This is their second largest margin of win in IPL in terms of balls left.
