Kolkata Knight Riders beat Delhi Daredevils by 13 runs at Kolkata, Stars and flops

Defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) beat Delhi Daredevils (DD) by 13 runs at Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

KKR won the toss and elected to bat first. Batting first, they got a good start and 180 was on the cards, but they somehow lost their way in middle. Yusuf Pathan once again came to the side’s rescue and a late flourish by Johan Botha in the final over, took the score to 171. In the death overs DD’s bowlers were too erratic. Fielding lapses and erratic bowling once again hampered DD as this was a crunch match for them and they had to win it to sustain in the tournament.

Chasing 172, DD got a steady start as they didn’t lose a wicket till the 10th over. KKR bowled well and kept it tight However, DD lost their way completely in the middle as they were struggling to get boundaries and lost three crucial wickets. The run-rate was too much to get against the formidable bowling attack of KKR. DD’s batsmen once again failed to contribute with the bat. Piyush Chawla kept chipping crucial wickets on regular basis.

Turning point: The wicket of JP Duminy in the 16th over of DD innings turned the match in KKR favour. Duminy was batting on 25 and looked well set. Had he been around, he would have surely helped them cross the line.
