Dunedin is often called the “Edinburgh of the South” and it’s fitting that Scotland started their ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 campaign there.
After Ireland’s win against West Indies, a lot was expected of Scotland who beat the former in the warm-up match and almost best West Indies too, but they got off to a disastrous start and were reduced to 12 for four in the fifth over. Matt Machan and Richie Berrington added 97 for the fifth wicket, however Scotland were bowled out for 142.
Dunedin is the home town for the Kiwi skipper Brendon McCullum, and it seemed like an easy chase for the Kiwis but Scotland picked up wickets at regular intervals and though New Zealand had their run-rate fine, they were reduced to 137 for 7. In the end they won by three wickets to move to the top of the table position, however it was far less convincing that they expected. ICC Cricket World Cup 2015: Full Coverage
