The time for mistakes is over and it’s that time of the event when one team moves ahead and the other get knocked-out. South Africa play Sri Lanka in the first quarter-finals of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 at Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG).
Sri Lanka were the runners-up in the previous two editions of the World Cup, were semi-finalists in 2003 and were champions in 1996. While Sri Lanka have been a successful team in World Cup competitions, South Africa have never ever won a knock-out match in the event.
The clash is termed as a contest between two of crickets finest contemporary batsmen – AB de Villiers and Kumar Sangakkara. While Sri Lanka side has been plagued due to injuries and will miss the services of ace spinner Rangana Herath, the strong South African side will look to shed off the tag of chokers.
Angelo Mathews of Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bat, which be a good advantage at the venue where more teams have won batting first.
The match begins at 9:00 am IST and will be shown live at Starsports.com. Criclife presents you with the pick of the tweets.
