Mohammad Hafeez hits out at Shaharyar Khan for his ‘degree’ remark

Education no doubt plays a huge role in shaping a person’s life and career, but the lack of it cannot be held responsible solely for a cricket team’s poor performance.

It has often been seen that cricketers coming out of the Indian sub-continent do not have a strong educational background. Barring a few like Ravichandran Ashwin from the current crop of players and the likes of Javagal Srinath, Anil Kumble, Rahul Dravid et al from the past, most of the cricketers have barely completed their graduation.

However, education has never come in between the success of players as some of the least educated ones like Sachin Tendulkar have gone on to become the best of the cricketers. But the chief of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Shaharyar Khan has other ideas, as he believes lack of educated players in the side is hurting Pakistan.

He recently made a statement that: “There is no graduate player in the team right now except for Misbah [Ul-Haq] and the absence of educated players in the team is a primary reason for its recent downfall. In future we will do our best to induct and encourage educated players into the team and also try to groom the existing lot of talent.”

Reacting to it, former Pakistan captain Mohammad Hafeez has lashed out at Shaharyar with his tweets. Though ‘Professor’ Hafeez did not directly take on the PCB chief, he could not hide his anger either when some of his fans on Twitter asked him questions that were related to the issue. When he was asked to comment on role of education in a cricketer’s life, his reply was this:
