Virat Kohli‘s Twitter and Instagram post on MS Dhoni has sparked rumors of the later’s retirement. Kohli shared a photo from the 2016 World T20 quarter-final played on March 27, 2016 with Kohli on his knees after the win and Dhoni’s back to the photo with his jersey No.7 visible.
Kohli hit an unbeaten 82 off just 51 deliveries to help India register a famous win as he shared a 67-run stand for the fifth wicket with Dhoni. Accompanying the photo was the caption “A game I can never forget. Special night. This man, made me run like in a fitness test.”
Soon after the post went viral, social media was abuzz with the information that Dhoni is set to announce his retirement at 7:00 pm IST. Dhoni has already retired from Tests in 2014. Dhoni last played in the ODIs in India’s semi-final loss to New Zealand in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019.
He was available for selection for the West Indies tour and instead choose to train with the territorial army battalion of the parachute regiment for 2 months. Dhoni is an honorary Lieutenant Colonel.
Speculations on Dhoni announcing his retirement from the limited-over game started after he made himself unavailable for the WI tour and with him not being named in the T20I squad for South Africa, the rumors got stronger.
