Indian opener Murali Vijay continued his good form as he struck his fifth Test hundred to take India to a strong position on the opening day of the second Test against Australia at Brisbane.
India lost Shikhar Dhawan for 24 in the morning session, while Cheteshwar Pujara was unlucky to be given out for 18 in the post-lunch session. Even the in-form Virat Kohli was dismissed for 19.
Vijay, who also brought up his 2000 Test runs during his innings, was dismissed on 144 by off-spinner Nathan Lyon. He hit 20 fours and added 124 runs with Ajinkya Rahane, who too batted well for his 52.
Vijay joined former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly, as the joint highest scorer in an innings in Brisbane. In 2003, Ganguly had also scored 144, in what was the first Test of the series.
India were 261 for four after 72 overs
