Not Sachin Tendulkar? Kumar Sangakkara is the greatest ODI cricketer of all-time!

A month a ago Australian cricket website — cricket.com.au came up with a fan poll in a bid to determine ODI cricket’s Greatest Of All Time (GOAT). The results were based on the amount of votes collected across the globe. The battle between renowned 64 ODI players which was on for last 40 days has finally concluded its result with Sri Lanka‘s Kumar Sangakkara emerging as the winner and Indian legend Sachin Tendulkar as runner-up. The contest received millions of votes and what stunned everyone was the fact that Sangakkara beat Indian batting legend Tendulkar in the final as the former received maximum number of votes. Sangakkara has a phenomenal record in ODI cricket with 14,234 runs in 404 outings at an astounding average of 41.98 along with 25 scintillating centuries to his name. Tendulkar on the other hand, has been a symbol of elegant batting. He has amassed 18,426 runs in 463 ODIs at a staggering average of 44.83 with 49 centuries being smashed from his willow. Both the players have been instrumental for their team’s success over the years.

Sangakkara was a wicketkeeper-batsman while Tendulkar also bowled part-time and claimed over 100 wickets.

The journey to the final has not been an easy one for both the geniuses as they defeated some great names of the game and chiseled their path here. The news may have come as a surprise to many especially in the Indian sub-continent as Tendulkar is referred as the demigod of cricket.
