Who could forget the famous Twenty20 International (T20I) victory against Sri Lanka in 2009, which was engineered by India’s famous Pathan brothers. Irfan Pathan and Yusuf Pathan snatched an improbable victory for India after being in a precarious situation at one point of time. While chasing a daunting total of 172 in 20 overs, India were seven down for 115 in 15.1 overs. From there on, the Pathan brothers took on Sri Lankan bowling attack and carried the team over the line. On this occasion, the duo has stitched another partnership together but this time on social media. Irfan rekindled an old memory with Lakshmipathy Balaji on the eve of his retirement from First-Class (FC) cricket, while Yusuf reckons the hard work of daily workers.

Balaji called it a day from FC cricket on September 15 and many cricketers conveyed their best wishes on this occasion. Irfan and Balaji played a lot of cricket together and during the former’s initial days for India. Irfan was helped by the right-arm medium and revealed an interesting episode from an India A tour where Balaji was trying to teach him how to speak English while the latter was receiving tutorials for Hindi. It’s a mesmerising anecdote and both the players will certainly share a laugh after recollecting it.

Balaji represented India in eight Tests, 30 One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and five T20Is, in which he scalped 27, 34 and 10 wickets respectively. He has also played a lot of T20 cricket in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for different franchises like Chennai Super Kings, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Kings XI Punjab. Balaji was a handy customer with the bat lower down the order and has many stores scripted with his cameos, especially against Pakistan.

The elder Pathan brother — Yusuf on the other hand has highlighted the hard work put in by the daily municipality workers to keep out city clean. Irfan has been on the bench for most of the seasons for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and currently in MS Dhoni-led Rising Pune Supergiants side, while Yusuf is a vital cog for KKR. He posted a picture on his official Twitter handle and wrote, “Thanks to these hard working people who do their best to keep our city.clean as well as our home@irfanPathan #Baroda.”

It’s a good gesture by him to honour the daily workers as hardly anyone realises the efforts they put in. Yusuf has certainly won many hearts with this tweet and attracted a lot of attention too. The Pathan brothers are currently not the part of Indian national side and are drilling continuously to make a comeback. They continue to feature in domestic cricket and in the IPL. Irfan has been on the bench for most of the seasons for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and currently in MS Dhoni-led Rising Pune Supergiants side, while Yusuf is a vital cord for KKR.
