Nowhere does cricket enjoy as much popularity as in the Indian subcontinent, where cricket is like a religion. In India, especially, the game enjoys a cult status and the cricketers are worshipped. Nothing, simply nothing, comes even remotely closer to their love and passion for the game. And if you talk about the most-loved cricketers, the names of Sachin Tendulkar, MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli pop up. One of these three men, Dhoni is all set to meet his fans in a new avatar when his biopic hits the theatres on September 30.

Millions of his fans in India and abroad will get to see the life of their beloved cricketer up, close and personal when ‘MS Dhoni: The Untold Story’ releases at the end of this month. The date has been marked in the calendar and elaborate plans have been made as the hardcore Dhoni fans await the release of this movie. At the moment, one more person who is getting equal attention like Dhoni is actor Sushant Singh Rajput. The Delhi lad, who is reprising Dhoni on the silver screen, is one of the most talked-about persons in India at the moment. He can be seen everywhere, promoting his movie at every nook and corner. Sometimes he has Dhoni for company, at other times he has his co-actors.

But one thing that strikes everybody whenever they see him is how wonderfully he has adapted to the role of the Indian captain. He has seamlessly transformed himself into Dhoni for this movie; at least the initial impression suggests so. Dhoni, who has been involved in the making of this movie closely, always wanted it to look real. He never wanted to glorify himself in this movie but only wanted to share his journey, his story. Thus, special attention was given to the smallest nuances of Dhoni’s life by shooting at locations associated with Dhoni, like his house in Ranchi, at his school and at Kharagpur station where Dhoni was stationed as the TTE.

Besides, Sushant himself made sure he aped Dhoni to perfection. This is evident from the picture above, where the reel Dhoni looks like a mirror image of the real Dhoni. The image is from Dhoni’s early days, when he was not a part of team India. It also features his mother and sister. It is apparent from the image that not only look wise, but Sushant ensured he appeared every bit like Dhoni by copying his mannerisms, his body language and even his famous shots by training rigorously for nine months.

TRENDING NOW

It all comes down to September 30 now. The trailers have created the buzz and given an early impression that Sushant has done a terrific job in portraying Dhoni. But the real judgement has been reserved for the ‘D Day’, when the fans will decide how he actually fared for the entire duration of the movie. The biopic, which also stars actress Kiara Advani as Sakshi Dhoni, Disha Patani as Dhoni’s ex-girlfriend, Bhumika Chawla as Dhoni’s sister and Anupam Kher as his father, is all set to release to a rousing reception.
