Finally, one of the most anticipated series of the years gets underway. The touring South Africans are all set to play their first game of the two-and-half-month-long tour. It’s the start of the Twenty20 International (T20I) series and will be staged at the picturesque Himachal Pradesh venue, in Dharamsala. India, who are currently ranked fourth in the ICC T20I rankings, are favourites for the contest. Barring the home conditions, they also have been the better of the two sides in the shortest format. Out of the eight T20Is that both the sides have played each other in, India have won six while Proteas have managed victory in just two. While home conditions are bound to favour the Indian side, the chilly higher altitude of Dharamsala, will present a different challenge altogether. India will look to play to their strength, which is batting. Their batting comprises of enough firepower in Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Suresh Raina, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, etc. While for South Africa, if AB de Villiers gets going then it’s a different story. South Africa have managed to win the all important toss and have elected to field first. Only time will tell if it’s a smart move or not.
